As I think I’ve mentioned before, Pablo and I hope to raise our children to be bilingual. We feel that this is a huge gift we can give them!
The way that works on a daily basis for us is that Pablo speaks exclusively in Spanish to Caleb (and soon to our new baby) and I speak mostly in English. Obviously Caleb ends up hearing a lot more English than Spanish since I am home with him the most.
So, to increase his exposure to Spanish we have purchased a variety of books and music in Spanish. Today I want to share some of our favorite Spanish books (so far! We plan to keep adding to our collection.)
Whether you speak Spanish or not, this is a great little vocabulary book in both Spanish and English. While we have several different books that are similar to this, what I especially like about this one is that the pictures are all photographs. The one I’ve linked to above is a board book which I like because Caleb is still pretty rough on books at this age, but I’m pretty sure you can get a “regular” version of this same book as well.
This is one of the first board books we read to Caleb and it has seen a lot of use. It’s great for babies because it just has one word and picture per page. We have three of these “bright baby” books (I believe there are four total) and have just loved them!
We love this bilingual book, as well as its companion book Quiero a Mi Mamá. The illustrations are beautiful and the text is short enough that it keeps Caleb’s attention which is obviously nice haha.
Who doesn’t love Curious George? Caleb is not old enough to enjoy this book yet but we have it ready for when he is. This book brings back great childhood memories for me and I love that it includes both languages.
This beautiful picture book was originally written in German and then translated into Spanish in Spain. I just happened to find it at a thrift store and I’m looking forward to reading it to Caleb when he’s a bit older.
This is a great translation of the popular book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. It’s such a cute book!
Those are just a few of our faves! We’re always looking for more good Spanish or bilingual books so if you have any you love let me know in the comments!
