Happy Friday you guys! I thought I’d interrupt my baking posts to jump on here with a post about family fun nights, or more specifically family movie night.
During this season of life we don’t have a ton of family nights with all of us together because of the shift Pablo works, but I still like to have fun nights with the kiddos and they are always thrilled when I say it’s family movie night!
Our fun nights usually look like play time, bath time, and then watching something together while we have a snack before bed.
Gotta get the kids tired out so that they’ll go to sleep later, especially if we are going to be sitting and watching something right before bed!
Lately I’ve been really trying to make sure that the kids get a lot of play time outside, especially now that the weather is cooling down a bit and it’s still light in the evenings for awhile. It’s so good for them to get outside! And it’s good for me too. I’m always a little sad when the winter months come and it starts getting dark by supper time.
If we do need to be indoors, one thing the kids love is for me to build a tent. We usually use the kitchen table to make it easy and just drape blankets on it. I love how the littlest things like that are so special and fun for kids. 🙂
We don’t do baths every night, but I like doing them on our movie nights because then Caleb is extra motivated to get in the bath right away. Plus it’s extra fun snuggling on the couch when the kids are squeaky clean.
Theoretically bath time should be a calming time but that’s not generally the case at our house haha. But that’s fine, at least they have fun.
One of the things I looked forward to when Caleb was really little was the time when he would be old enough to enjoy a movie with us. I just loved the idea of us all sitting on the couch watching a movie together.
Well, that time has come! We don’t watch a whole movie at once though – usually just half – or we will pick a half hour show (like the classic Winnie the Pooh that I grew up watching!)
This month I tried something new and signed up for a free trial with Pure Flix! They have some fun kids’ shows like Franklin which Caleb was super excited to watch. Pure Flix also has a Babar movie which I’m totally going to check out because I really liked that book when I was a kid haha. If you’ve not heard of Pure Flix go check them out! I’m such a fan of free trials! 🙂
Don’t forget the snacks!
The kids love having popcorn while we watch something. Big surprise there right? Haha. But I like to make our popcorn extra special by drizzling on some of this awesome stuff that Pablo just introduced me to called Cajeta. Man is that stuff good! You can find it in the Hispanic aisle of the store. And no this is not an ad for Cajeta, I just really like the stuff. 😉
Now I’d love to hear from you! What do you like to do for family fun nights? If you do a family movie night, how do you make it extra special?
Thanks to Pure Flix for suggesting this post and for encouraging families to stay in and have fun together!
