Ok, so the new recipe I tried this week was steak fajitas! It’s actually kind of sad that I’d never made them before since I LOVE fajitas. I decided to make them after seeing this recipe on my friend Rachel’s blog.
I don’t buy steak very often since I try to keep our grocery budget at $50 a week, but when I do decide to get some I look for it on sale! I’ve found that Wal-Mart often puts meat on sale when it needs to be used or frozen by the next day, and that was the case with this sirloin steak.
As you can see, Pablo was excited about the steak. 😉 He volunteered to grill it for me (just on the stove top, because it’s a bit cold for grilling outside right now.)
Here it is, sizzling away and smelling amazing!
While Pablo was busy with the steak, I worked on the peppers and onions. I ended up using about one and a half green bell peppers and half of a large onion. Once I had them cut up I started sauteing them with some olive oil.
Once the steak was done I cut it up and added it to the peppers and onions. I also threw in a little water (about 1/4 cup) and half a packet of fajita seasoning. Voilá!
Although we both enjoyed the fajitas a lot, Pablo and I both thought that the fajita seasoning wasn’t the greatest. Next time, I think we’ll try coming up with our own seasoning for the meat and skip the pre-packaged stuff. Still, over-all it was a success!
