“[Having] a two year old is kind of like having a blender, but you don’t have a top for it.” (Jerry Seinfeld)
Can anyone relate to the above quote? I know I can haha! But really, two year olds get a bad rap sometimes. After all, we’ve all heard about the “terrible twos”, right? I’ll admit, there are definitely moments when I can understand the phrase… but in general I think two year olds are so much fun. Today I’m here to share with you ten reasons why I think two year olds are terrific. I was originally going to share five but I kept coming up with more!
Let’s get started!
1. They are finally communicating more
And boy is it adorable. I. Love. It.
More talking also means less guesswork! Don’t get me wrong, there’s still some guessing going on over here but definitely less than there used to be.
2. They are using their imaginations more
…which reminds me how rusty mine is haha! Caleb would be thrilled if I would sit and play stories with him and his cars and animals all day long.
3. They like being your “helper”
So let them! Caleb likes to help me throw the laundry in the washer, spray the floor with water while I come behind with a mop, and start the dishwasher. His favorite is spraying the water, of course! 😉
4. They are learning independence
Caleb’s favorite phrase now days is “my turn” which means “I want to do it myself” haha. He is so proud of himself when he puts on his own socks and shoes or goes on the slide at the park without any help. Learning independence can be frustrating too but I try to let him do things on his own whenever I can.
5. They are hilarious
This may be my favorite point. Two year olds will definitely keep you laughing with all the hilarious things they say and do! The other day Sofia was sick and Caleb saw me giving her some medicine; he wanted to have some so he proceeded to make fake hiccuping noises to try to convince me. I don’t think he understood why I just laughed!
6. They start learning to sing
This has been so fun to watch with Caleb. He LOVES to sing. He won’t be winning a prize for his pitch anytime soon haha but it’s absolutely adorable to listen to him. I’m continually amazed at how quickly he learns the words to songs. My favorite thing ever is when he and I both belt out a song together in the car. I’ll have to post an Instagram story of him singing soon!
7. They still think you are awesome (most of the time)
I’m enjoying this perk as long as I can!
8. They aren’t (quite) as picky at the dinner table Â
If your two year old hasn’t experienced this yet don’t worry, it will happen eventually. Caleb has a ways to go for sure BUT I’m seeing progress which makes me really happy (and relieved!)
9. They are learning something new every day
New songs, new skills, new expressions… it’s so fun to watch!
10. They are still young enough to cuddle
I started tearing up when I wrote down this last point. I don’t want my kids to ever be too old to cuddle, although I imagine they will feel differently. 😉 I’ll at least enjoy it while it lasts!
