Do your kids love books? Thanksgiving is coming up, so here’s a list of the best Thanksgiving books for kids, perfect for reading aloud!
Pablo and I both love books and having really good books for our kids is super important to us.
I love adding to our collection of children’s books whenever I can. I’m so happy that all my kids love books!
As Thanksgiving rolled around last year I realized that we didn’t have any Thanksgiving books for kids! Of course, by the time I thought about it it was a little late to order any, but I tried to grab a few at the library.
This year I prepared ahead of time and bought a few Thanksgiving books for the kids a couple weeks ago. Woohoo!
I also spent some time the last few weeks reading through different lists online and came up with a list for you guys of 15 of the best Thanksgiving books for kids. (Psst – Read Aloud Revival is one place with great book suggestions!) I wanted to share my list now a few weeks before Thanksgiving so that you have a little time if you want to grab up a few of these for your kiddos before the holiday!
We don’t own all of the books on the list of course, but I’ll let you know which ones we own and/or have read.

As usual I’m sharing my Amazon affiliate links for most of the books. I love the convenience of ordering on Amazon and I know that many of you do to. However, I also highly recommend ThriftBook.com for great deals on books, especially if you don’t mind getting ones that are gently used.
Okay, ready for my list?
15 of the Best Thanksgiving Books for Kids
Books About the First Thanksgiving:
1. The Pilgrims’ First Thanksgiving (Ann McGovern)
This is one of the books I bought the kids this year. It’s a nice, simple telling of the first Thanksgiving story without being sooo lengthy that it loses their attention. The pictures are nice too!
2. The Story of the Pilgrims (Katherine Ross)
3. Squanto’s Journey (Joseph Bruchae)
I remember this book from reading at my Grandma’s house. I love that it’s about Squanto and it’s one I’d like to get for my kids eventually.
4. Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving (Eric Metaxas)
5. If You Were at the First Thanksgiving (Anne Kamma)
This is another of the books I purchased for my kids this year. This one is perfect for teaching the kids about what it would have been like to be a Pilgrim.
6. The Boy Who Fell Off the Mayflower (P.J. Lynch)
We don’t have this book yet but I love that it’s a true story about John Howland, one of the Pilgrims who came over on the Mayflower.
7. The Thanksgiving Story (Alice Dalgliesh)
Other Great Thanksgiving Books For Kids:
8. An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving (L.M. Alcott)
This is on my to-buy list eventually because I just love everything by Louisa May Alcott!
9. Molly’s Pilgrim (Barbara Cohen)
10. Cranberry Thanksgiving (Wende and Harry Devlin)
I have such great memories of reading this book at my Grandma’s house. It’s such a fun Thanksgiving book for kids and teaches a great lesson about not judging people based on their appearance.
11. Bear Says Thanks (Karma Wilson)
This is a great book for littles about being thankful.
12. Over the River and Through the Wood (Lydia Maria Child)
13. It’s Thanksgiving (Jack Prelutsky)
I got this book for the kids this year. It’s an easy reader book and has several short Thanksgiving stories and poems that are silly and fun for the kids.
14. Thanksgiving in the Woods (Phyllis Alsdurf)
15. Give Thanks to the Lord (Karma Wilson)
I love the emphasis on the Lord in this book and the references to Psalm 92!
