My Favorite Productivity Tips For Moms
Make a list
I’ll admit, I’m a list person and I think everyone should be. A list can be so motivating. Put even the littlest tasks on your list so you can check off more things. No shame!
In her course Make Over Your Mornings (a course I recommend) Crystal Paine talks about making a list of to-dos for your day the night before. This is helpful because when you wake up you have already thought through exactly what you need to accomplish.
Identify time-sucks
You know yourself the best. What do you tend to waste time on? (For me it’s my phone.) Identify those time-sucks and do something about them. (More about this in the next point!)
Have a phone downtime
The new “downtime” feature on the iphone has been helpful for me recently. I’m sure there are apps that work in a similar way as well. It is great to be able to set up a certain amount of time on my phone when all the apps shut down. I’m always more productive when I’m not distracted by my phone.
Get up before the kids
Oh my word, I struggle with this so much, I’ll be honest. But the days when I do manage to get up first I feel so much better. When the kids wake me up I already feel behind.
Here are my sleepy-faced cuties. 🙂
Work smart
Putting away new groceries? You’re already moving things around in the fridge, so take a minute and quickly wipe the shelves down while you’re at it. Going upstairs? Take something along with you that needs to be put away. Waiting for something to heat up in the microwave? See how many dishes you can put away while you wait.
Listen to something while you work
Get the house cleaned and be encouraged/entertained/educated at the same time? Yes please!
Listening to something on my phone while I fold laundry or do dishes is my favorite – it makes the tasks go by so much faster! Audiobooks and podcasts are both great options. If you need podcast recommendations comment at the bottom of this post and I’ll share some favorites.
Do one thing
If you’re like me, you tell yourself you’ll get a million things done once your kids are in bed (or down for naps) but then when they are you just want to collapse. The struggle is real! But I’ve found that if I’ll just do one thing, it often gives me the motivation I need to accomplish even more.
