Do you ever go through a whole day, busy the whole time, but arrive at the end feeling like you accomplished nothing? Yes? Well you’re not alone.
So many of the things we do as moms are things that get undone rather quickly.
While you clean one room your kids make a mess in the other.
By the time you get the clean laundry folded and put away the dirty clothes hamper is overflowing again.
Dishes seem to multiply with no explanation. (Seriously, how do my kids manage to use six cups in one day?)
Sometimes Pablo gets home from work and the house looks like I did nothing all day. Ugh! Thankfully I have a husband who gets it and never gives me a hard time.
Still though, feeling like you’ve accomplished nothing all day can be discouraging. So, my solution?
Get one thing done.
Choose something small – and something that won’t get immediately undone – and do it! (And when I say small I mean small! You have to start somewhere.) Here are a few examples of what I mean:
-Wipe out your microwave (unless you’re one of those amazing moms who already does this daily haha!)
-Clear off the top of your fridge or countertops
-Take 10 minutes and organize one drawer
-Gather up a bag of things to donate
-Place a quick order of something you’ve been needing to buy with Amazon Prime
Don’t have Prime? Try it out with a 30 day free trial!)
-Switch out a simple decor piece with something new or put some fresh flowers in a vase
-Do a quick dusting of your living room
-Make one call and/or schedule one appointment that you’ve been meaning to get to
I could list a bunch more things but you get the idea! It’s so encouraging to me if I can point to at least something at the end of the day that I accomplished, besides the regular clean-up-after-everybody type of stuff. 😉 Plus, a lot of times once you do one thing you’ll find that you’re able to tackle something else too!
What about you? What helps you feel more productive? Please share in the comments! 🙂
Getting up early before Cara wakes up, especially if I have time to read my Bible, eat breakfast, and get dressed for the day, gives me a productive feeling right at the beginning of the day, and energizes me to get more done!
