My baby is eight months old today! I can’t believe how fast time is flying by. In honor of the day, here are eight things that I love about being a mom. 🙂
1. Late night cuddles
Caleb goes to bed pretty early, but he usually wakes up to eat one more time at around 10 pm. Sometimes he falls back asleep immediately, but lots of times he wakes up a little and is in a super happy mood so we cuddle with him for a few minutes before putting him back in his own bed. So much fun. <3
2. Having an errand buddy
It’s true, errands definitely aren’t as quick and easy with a baby in tow, but it’s so fun having my little buddy along! I used to always wear Caleb in my ergo carrier while shopping, but this week he sat in the cart for the first time. I think he was pretty proud of himself.
3. Waking up in the morning to happy baby babbling
I mean, what could be better than being woken up in the morning by a happy little voice saying “dadadada”? (Well, I guess maybe hearing “mamamama”… 😉 )
4. Watching my baby get excited (about the littlest things!)
Like looking at himself in the mirror. Or hearing me blow my nose (yes, he thinks this is hilarious!) Oh, or cracking up when I move my feet and make them “talk” to him.
5. Being my baby’s favorite person (or at least sharing that title with my husband!)
It’s the best feeling in the world to know that your baby wants you. To know that, for the most part, you know best what they need and you know best how to comfort them.
6. Watching my husband be a daddy
This really is the best thing ever guys! This picture says it all. <3
7. Watching my baby learn new things
It’s kind of ridiculous how proud I am when Caleb learns how to do something new. Even little things – things that would probably seem unimportant to someone else – like watching him learn how to pick up small bites of food with his little chubby baby hands.
8. Understanding God’s love for me just a little bit more
In the movie Love Comes Softly, after Marty gives birth to her baby she says, “Isn’t it amazing the powerful love that just sweeps over you?” I love that quote because I have been amazed – amazed at how deeply I love Caleb. Of course I knew I was going to love him! But I didn’t know it was even possible to love him this much – and I’m not just saying that to sound all poetic and sappy!
The awesome truth about God though, is that His love and care for me is far greater than even a mother’s love. (Isaiah 49:15-16) That truth has really been a blessing to me as I’ve thought about it.
Well, there you have it! I’m sure I could list a lot more things but I’ll keep it at eight for now. 😉 I’m so grateful that God has blessed me with the privilege of being a mom and I’m looking forward to a lot more happy times with my baby.
Happy eight months Caleb!!
