Hi friend!
Just jumping on the blog briefly today to share some of my favorite healthy convenience foods. No, this post isn’t sponsored by any brand, I just am a big fan of foods that make my life easier and thought it would make a good blog post to share with you. 😉
I don’t know about you, but when I think of convenience foods I don’t usually think healthy. In fact, I usually think the opposite, ha! But there are healthy convenience foods out there and boy am I glad – I love things that make my life easier!
Obviously, buying convenience foods, healthy or otherwise, will usually cost you a bit more (sometimes a lot more) than making the same food yourself. I don’t buy all of these items every week, or even every month (especially when I’m keeping to our $50 a week grocery budget) but I do like to buy them when I can.
So, with no further ado, here you go:

Steamable veggies
Steamable veggies are probably my favorite thing on this list of healthy convenience foods. Whoever thought of steaming veggies in a bag in the microwave was a genius. It makes prep SO easy.
I love having bags of corn, peas, or mixed veggies in the freezer that I can pull out and quickly steam in the microwave. I will admit though that I’m not a big fan of steaming green beans or broccoli in the microwave so I usually do those on the stove – they just seem to turn out better.
Rotisserie chicken
This is one item that we faithfully buy at least once a month from Costco. Their rotisserie chickens are DELISH and really a very good value. We always get several meals out of one chicken and I like to make broth from the bones as well.
Chicken nuggets
Okay, so this probably doesn’t sound like it fits on a list of healthy convenience foods, but hear me out. You can get some nice chicken nuggets that don’t have all the preservatives and junk in them – they just cost a bit more than the junky kind haha. But man are they convenient to have in the freezer for those days when you need to feed the kids something quickly! And hey, they’re definitely healthier than grabbing a 10-pack of nuggets for the kids at McD’s! 😉
Whole wheat spaghetti
I try to always keep spaghetti in my pantry. There’s not many meal options that are easier than quickly boiling some pasta and adding a jar of spaghetti sauce. I pretty much always buy whole wheat spaghetti – Aldi carries a 16 oz. of organic, whole wheat spaghetti for only $1.19!
I’ll admit, I’m not such a fan of other varieties of whole wheat pastas, but whole wheat spaghetti tastes great and is an easy way to make a simple convenience food a little healthier.
Fruit/veggie pouches
Who else loves those little GoGo fruit/veggie pouches (or similar brands) for their kids? Talk about a convenient way to get an extra serving of fruit and veggies in your kids! This is one of those things that can be a bit pricey so we don’t keep them on hand all the time, but we love them for trips or special occasions (or when I get a good deal!)
Frozen burgers
I love having a package of frozen burgers in the freezer for days when I run out of time (or ideas) for dinner. We make them into a healthy meal by eating them without buns along with a big side of veggies, usually green beans. 🙂
So, there you have it, my top six favorite healthy convenience foods! I also love to make some of my own convenience foods by preparing some foods ahead of time that I can pull out of the freezer as needed (for example: cooked beans, cooked rice, chopped onions, cooked ground beef, and marinated meats.)
I share more about what I like to keep stocked in my freezer in this post here. 🙂
Now it’s your turn! What are you favorite healthy convenience foods? Are any of them the same as mine? Or do you disagree that mine are healthy? Share your thoughts with me in the comments!
Thanks for stopping by friend. 🙂
