Need a Christmas or birthday gift for your Mexican dad? Or maybe you’re shopping for Father’s Day or another special occasion. Whichever it may be, today I have a great list for you of some of the best gift ideas for your Mexican dad or the Mexican dad in your life.
“Gift ideas for your Mexican dad” is a bit more specific than some of my other gift guides haha but my husband is from Mexico (from the city of Puebla, a large city several hours south of Mexico City) so this blog post felt like an easy topic. And of course I picked his brain for ideas!
Here’s what he and I came up with!
10 Perfect Gift Ideas for Your Mexican Dad
1. Coca Cola from Mexico
Glass bottles of Coke from Mexico make the perfect simple gift for a Mexican dad. I don’t want to over generalize here, but I think it’s safe to say (and my husband confirms) that most Mexicans love coke.
But did you know that the coke they sell in Mexico is slightly different than what is sold here in the United States? Here in the states it’s sweetened with corn syrup (yuck) while the kind that’s sold in Mexico contains real sugar.
I’m not a fan of coke regardless, but Pablo tells me that there’s definitely a difference in taste and he prefers the real Mexican coke. You can buy it in glass bottles at our local Costco and I’m sure other places as well.
2. Mexico Soccer Jersey
You absolutely can’t go wrong with a Mexican soccer jersey. You can get them lots of places online, even Etsy!
If your dad is a fan of one of the soccer club teams in Mexico, one of their specific jerseys would be a great gift too. I’ll be honest, I know absolutely nothing about these soccer (aka futbol) teams, but Pablo mentioned Chivas, Cruz Azul, and America.
3. Snacks
Who doesn’t like some good snacks? (In fact, your dad may have to hide his snacks from the rest of the family members so he can actually enjoy them.)
Rancheritos, Churrumais, and Sabbritones are all good snack ideas. Pablo also loves Lay’s Flamin’ Hot chips.
Canelitas are a good idea for something sweet to go with coffee, or my personal favorite, Principe cookies. Both are the Marinela brand which you can find at Walmart on the Hispanic aisle.
4. Mexican-Themed Coffee Mug
This ceramic mug is so fun (what Mexican dad doesn’t want to be called “el jefe”?) and would make a great gift.
5. Fun T-Shirt
A fun T-shirt always makes a great gift. I love this one that says: “Mexican Dad – just like a normal dad except much cooler.”
And this taco-themed shirt and matching baby onesie would be perfect for a new dad and his baby.
6. Hot Sauce
Does your Mexican dad put hot sauce on everything? Why not get him a variety so that he always has plenty. A few off the top of my head would be Valentina, Cholula, Texas Pete, Tabasco, etc.
Did you know that there are even hot sauce subscription boxes? A once a month or once a quarter box would be a great gift that would likely see everyday use if your dad loves hot sauce.
7. Mexican Cookbook
Is your dad into cooking? There are tons of good Mexican cookbooks out there that would be perfect for a dad who loves to cook and wants to get better at making Mexican food.
8. Lucha Libre Mask
Looking for the perfect humorous present? Pablo cracked up when I mentioned a Lucha Libre mask and I really think it’s the best funny gift idea. It makes me chuckle to think about Pablo wearing one of these. Oh, and Pablo said that if you gift a mask you need to be sure to include a cape as well haha.
9. Bug-A-Salt Gun
Ok, this one isn’t necessarily “Mexican dad specific, but I gave Pablo this salt gun for Christmas last year and he’s gotten such a kick out of it. Yes, it’s a lot pricier than a simple fly swatter, but it’s a whole lot more fun too. 😉
10. A Useful Gift
Is your dad more into useful gifts? Why not get him a better version of a tool that he uses often? Or what about some good tools for the grill? A good useful gift will be used again and again in everyday life.
Here are a few ideas:
Portable Tire Inflator – I got this for Pablo last year and he even uses it for adding air to our soccer balls.
RYOBI Drill – Pablo loves this drill.
Grilling Tools – If your dad loves to grill these would make a great gift!
If all else fails, surprise the Mexican dad in your life with a good meal of Mexican food. Tacos are always a good idea, but my husband Pablo’s absolute favorite meal for me to make is Enchiladas Suizas.
I know that dad gifts can be hard to come up with, but I hope this gift guide helped to give you some fun and useful gift ideas for your Mexican dad.
