1. Start the day with a special breakfast
Ideas: confetti pancakes, donuts, free birthday breakfast out with Dad or Mom
2. Tell them what you appreciate/love about them
3. Fill their room with balloons
Do it while they’re sleeping so that it’s a fun surprise!
4. Make their favorite meal
5. Get creative with fun décor
Ideas: birthday balloon tied to their seat at the table, streamers on their bedroom door, banner in the living room, etc.
6. Stick pictures of them all around the house or frame a few special ones
7. Plan a birthday present scavenger hunt
8. Let them pick the cake/ice cream
Caleb loved this cake that I made for his third birthday!
9. Give your child a special birthday hat or badge to wear
10. Take them out for a meal-date with Dad or Mom
11. Have a friend party
Simple, low-budget idea: invite friends to bring a picnic to the playground; you provide cupcakes and drinks!
12. If you’re doing a party, let them pick the theme

13. Hang a special birthday flag outside all day
14. Make time for video-calls with out-of-town grandparents
Or better yet, go visit them! This picture is from Caleb’s first birthday. My mother-in-law threw him a big party in Mexico that included a mariachi band!
15. Get a birthday book that everyone signs
And be sure to pull it out and read it each birthday!
16. Watch old videos of the birthday kid
17. Go on a special birthday outing
Ideas: splash pad, children’s museum, petting zoo, indoor play-place
