It’s November and the holidays are approaching quickly! I get so excited this time of year as I make my Christmas shopping list and start planning what I want to buy for everyone on my list.
As you know, I’m a fan of frugal living and good deals so of course I love Black Friday and all the sales on that day and the days surrounding it. After all, it’s not cute if it’s not on sale, am I right? 😉
Today I thought it would be fun to reflect back on some of my favorite Black Friday deals of the past and how I’m prepping for Black Friday this year.
Thanks so much to Slickdeals for sponsoring today’s post!
Favorite Black Friday finds from the past
I’ve gotten some great deals on Black Friday in the past!
One year I picked up a great luggage set that was heavily discounted for Black Friday “early birds”. (Luggage is something that is regularly discounted for Black Friday so definitely keep that in mind if you’ve been needing a new set!)
Last year I got two nice dress shirts and a really nice sweater for Pablo for basically just the price of one shirt. I’m always happy when I can score some great stuff for him because his birthday is just a couple weeks before Christmas.
Other things I’ve found for a great deal on Black Friday include slippers, blankets, DVDs, kids’ clothes, Christmas ornaments, toys, and probably more that I’m not remembering!
And of course if you’re prepping for Black Friday don’t forget that it’s also a great time to buy some of those big ticket items that you may have been waiting on. Just a few examples that come to mind are TVs, laptops, nice vacuums, and Instant Pots!
Deals I’m watching for this year
This year I’m especially hoping to score some good deals on a few toys for the kids for Christmas.
Legos are always a hit in our house so I’m going to watch for sales on those. (You can never have too many Legos, am I right?)
I’m also going to be checking out Target’s Black Friday deals because I’d love to get a deal on their Li’l Woodzeez toy house. (I think it would be perfect for Sofia to use for her Calico Critters!)
Speaking of Target, I also like checking for deals on clothes there on Black Friday. Target isn’t as overwhelming to me as some of the bigger department stores and they always have cute stuff. I especially like their Cat & Jack brand for the kids because they are guaranteed for one year with tags and receipt!
This year I’m also going to be keeping my eyes open for good deals on home furnishings. We eventually want to get curtains and rugs for several of the rooms in our new home. Since those can be pretty pricey we don’t have plans to purchase everything right away but I will be watching for deals just in case!
Tips for prepping for Black Friday
For me, making a Black Friday game plan is essential. If I don’t, I wander around the stores not really knowing what to look for and end up feeling overwhelmed.
1. Check the Black Friday ads ahead of time
I like to check the ads for Target, Walmart, Kohls, and JC Penney.
I also check my mail carefully the week leading up to Black Friday because several stores will usually send valuable coupons!
2. Make lists
Definitely don’t forget to make a list of who you need to buy for and what you’re hoping to get them. You may think you have it all in your head but it’s easy to blank out when you’re actually at the store shopping!
3. Double-check store opening times/deal schedules
Black Friday is a lot different now than it was 10 years ago. You used to have to get up at like 3am if you wanted to score some good deals. Now a lot of stores offer deals later in the day on Thanksgiving as well as throughout the day on Friday and some stores have deals running all week long.
When you’re making your Black Friday “game plan” you’ll definitely want to check what time the various stores will be open and what deals are being offered when. Keep in mind that many stores will also be offering great online deals come Monday.
I’ll be sharing links to some of my favorite Black Friday (and Cyber Monday) deals over on my Facebook page again this year. If you’re looking for something specific let me know so I can watch for it for you!
So, what about you, are you ready for some holiday shopping? What’s the best deal you’ve ever scored on Black Friday? Let me know in the comments!
