Hello friend 🙂
Is your day off to a good start so far? I hope so!
But if you’re like me, you probably have some days that just get off on the wrong foot and you wish you could reset your morning.
Maybe your kids woke you up before you were ready and that put you in a sour mood. Maybe you didn’t get around to picking up the night before so you’re starting your day in a messy house. Maybe your kids are super whiny and you just feel over it by 7:30 a.m.
Whatever the reason may be, we all experience rough mornings sometimes. But a rough morning doesn’t mean the rest of your day has to continue in the same strain. Sometimes you just need to push the reset button!
How to Reset Your Morning When It’s Off to a Rough Start
Pray
Your rough morning isn’t a surprise to Jesus. He wants us to bring our burdens to him, even the ones that may seem stupid or insignificant. I’m reminded of the words to the hymn What a Friend We Have in Jesus:
What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Pray first!
Light a candle
I love candles! When I light a nice-smelling candle my day automatically feels just a little bit happier.
I’d been wanting a new candle for the fall and just received an amazing one from Vellabox. It came in the cutest little bag and has such a great scent – I love it so much!
Vellabox is an all-natural artisan subscription candle box company. All of their candles are high quality, non-toxic, lead free, and hand poured from artisan candle makers! They offer 3 different monthly subscription boxes great for yourself or for gifting to family or friends (think Christmas gifts!) 😉 It’s really cool because each month has its own theme and there is always an extra little gift in each box.

Turn on music
Music can be such a great mood changer! Sometimes soft, calm music is helpful; other times more upbeat music can be nice to lift everyone’s moods. Lately I’ve been enjoying Josh Groban’s new album Bridges (affiliate link.) You can never have too much beautiful music!
Make your kids laugh
Sometimes you just need to drop what you’re doing and make your kids laugh!
The other day I randomly got down on my hands and knees and crawled over to where my kids were playing pretending to be a dog. They looked at me like I was the biggest weirdo ever but they got a kick out of it. I’m not saying you need to be as weird as me haha but don’t be afraid to be goofy with your kids.
Be silly. Laugh with them. Lighten up!
Go outside
There’s just something about getting outside in God’s creation. Even if it’s just for 5 minutes, a breath of fresh air can work wonders to reset your morning. Plus, kids just need to be outside sometimes to run off their energy. It’s good for you and it’s good for them.
Give everyone a quiet time
And finally, sometimes everyone just needs a break from everyone else. There is nothing wrong with sending your kids off to their own little spot (different rooms, or just different spots in the same room) to look at books or play quietly by themselves. (In fact, this is something that I do a lot of mornings, whether it’s a particularly rough one or not – read more about that here.)
Now I want to hear from you! What do you do to reset your morning when it’s gotten off to a rough start? Please share in the comments! 🙂 And don’t forget to go check out Vellabox!
Note: I received a complimentary Vellabox in exchange for my honest review – all opinions are entirely my own.
Great tips, will be sure to put some of these in practice when I’m having a rough morning!
Thanks Kimberley!
Lately, when coffee doesn’t quite perk me up, I like to put on some oldies music in the morning. It almost always gets me through the day when I’m overwhelmed or exhausted.
Music can be so helpful!!
My kids are grown but getting outside works for me too!
Yay for the outdoors!
Very nice post about resetting your morning. I will have to remember some of these tips for Wednesday after a late night at karate on Tuesday night.
Thanks for commenting! 🙂
Prayer and gospel music are my go to. Bc I’m typically up a few hours before my twins.
Ahh you have twins? I’m sure they’re adorable ❤️
Getting in some quiet time definitely works for us–even though it’s just my one son and me at home during the day. Even when we have a rough start things seem to be better after he’s taken a nap and I’ve had some time to myself. Side note: I pretended to be a dog earlier today (before I even read this post) and he thought it was so funny!
Hahaha way to go making your son laugh! Glad I’m not the only weird mom 😉❤️
Wonderful tips!!!!
