Hey friends!
I’m excited to share my 2019 goals and word for the year with you today! I’ve been working on my goals since December but needed a little extra time to think through them which is why it’s taken until now for me to share them. Of course it goes without saying that I want to accomplish more this year than just these goals, but I wanted to make goals for some of the areas that I specifically want to work on. 🙂
Goals for 2019
Write one hand-written note/letter/card a week.
One week done, 51 to go for this goal! Thanks to Crystal Paine at Money Saving Mom for the inspiration to do this.
Read 18 books this year.
I technically started working on this goal right after Christmas when I got several new books. Since then I’ve read More Than Just Making It and Born Survivors and am finishing up A Simplified Life (which I’d started last fall but hadn’t finished.) I’ll be sharing reviews of some of the books I read this year here on the blog, and others I’ll recap on my Instagram stories (so follow me there if you haven’t yet!)
While 18 books isn’t a ton, it’s more than I read last year and I wanted to set a doable goal for myself. Hopefully I’ll end up surpassing it though!
Start each day with a devotional reading.
This year I’m reading through Paul David Tripp’s devotional New Morning Mercies and so far it is really really good. It’s a really helpful way for me to start the day off with my heart in the right place.
Of course, along with the devotional I want to be reading the actual Bible – that just may take place later in the day. Some days I will read the Scripture that Tripp suggests for further reading at the bottom of each page and other times I’ll read through a different part of the Bible that I want to focus on.
Wipe out my fridge before putting in new groceries each week.
So, on a totally different note, I was inspired to make this a goal by Kellie, a blogger I follow on Instagram. In the past I’ve let my fridge get embarrassingly bad, so I’m excited about keeping up with this goal. A clean fridge makes the food inside look yummier too!
Use my nice things regularly.
I’ve realized lately that I have lots of nice things that I don’t use often enough. My nicer dishes, my favorite clothes, etc. So, instead of always saving things for a “special occasion” (and ending up hardly ever using them) I’ve decided that I want to enjoy them now!
I’ll probably go into more detail with this goal in another blog post soon. 🙂
Get back to my pre-third-baby weight.
This shouldn’t be too hard (hopefully) if I make an effort to watch my carbs and sweets (something that definitely didn’t happen over Christmas, ha!) and finally get back into an exercise routine.
Spend focused one-on-one time with each of my kids each week.
Often this just happens naturally in the course of the week, but I want to be extra intentional this year to make sure that it does.
Double my blog’s pageviews for the year.
Not a ton of explanation needed for this one. I also hope to grow my blog-related social media, especially my Instagram, as well as my blog’s email list. (Not on my email list yet? Sign up here and make my day!)
So, those are my goals! Now on to my word for the year.
My word for 2019 is focus.
Wherever you are, be all there. (Jim Elliot)
That quote sums up perfectly why I chose focus as my word for the year. It’s something I want to do better at.
When I’m spending time with the kids I want to be completely with them, not distracted by my phone or my thoughts. Same thing when I’m with Pablo.
When I’m working on a blogging task or something around home I want to zero in on that one thing and complete it instead of jumping around to this and that and the other.
This also applies to my time with the Lord. The Bible says “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). I want to do better at setting aside all distractions (whenever possible – obviously with kids there will still be some and that’s okay) and focusing on the Lord. I want to make a regular effort to be still and get to know my God better.
So, that’s my word – focus – and those are my goals for this year! I’d love for you to check in, ask me how I’m doing, and keep me accountable!
Now it’s your turn: tell me one of your goals for the year in the comments below. 🙂
Thanks for reading! I’ll be back with more soon!
